OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Whilst our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy are in place to protect your security and our mental wellbeing of not getting sued. I have written the following 'Community Guidelines' that by creating an account and joining this community, you will immediately be considered to be in agreement with the terms and conditions listed below. In short; don't be a wanker*. For a more in-depth version, please read on:

Below are things that I generally expect from a good human being:

  • Treat others online as you would treat them in real life. - Pretty self-explanatory.

  • Treat others how you would like to be treated. The same principle as above. The first time I read this was on a sign for my school's bike shed - Leave this shed how you would like to find it. It stayed with me. The same concept applies to people.

  • Be tolerant towards other’s viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions do not align. - I loooooove to debate that is one of the main reasons why I created this website. I want people to have discussions. The world would be so dull if everyone thought exactly the same way about things.

  • Respect the privacy and personal information of other alumni - and never divulge any information to another that a member has told you in confidence.

  • Communicate with courtesy and respect - again a pretty simple concept.

If in doubt listen to Thumper, he knows what's up:

Things that will never be ok:

  • Making personal attacks on other community members, unless they support Trump (joke). People have a right to their own opinion, no matter how morally wrong.

  • Using defamatory remarks or make false statements against others

  • Posting prejudiced comments or profanity directed at a particular member. Whilst I myself am fluent in profanity, it has a time and place. Whilst I regard the use in such statements such as; "F**k that book was amazing" to be fine, any such language directed at a particular individual is not acceptable.

  • Bullying or make inflammatory remarks to other community members. If I see anyone making any comments with negative connotations regarding; race, gender, colour or creed. I will quite happily ban and block you personally. Thank u, next.

We will take immediate action when we see someone violating these guidelines. To be honest we just don't really want someone like that around. I created this place as somewhere for people to discuss and discover; whether that be books, authors or friendships.

Since we are a very very small collective of enthusiasts we can't have eyes on everything so if you do see anybody violating our guidelines please can you report them to enquires@thebookslut.com

Dependant on the situation and circumstance we might just issue someone a warning, or other times it will mean revoking their account entirely.
